Admission Criteria

Undergraduate studies (first cycle - Licence)

Students who pursue first cycle (undergraduate) degrees at universities and institutes of technology in France must hold a French Baccalauréat or equivalent and have passed the university entrance exam in their home country. While applying for a study program at an institute of technology, applicants should be ready to undertake a personal interview.

Master's studies (second cycle)

If you are applying for a master's program at university in France, you are required to be in possession of a relevant bachelor's or equivalent degree diploma.

Doctoral studies (third cycle - Doctorat)

If you are applying for Doctoral Studies in Ireland, Scholars are asked to be in possession of a relevant diploma or master's degree program.

General requirements for studies at French Grandes Écoles

Unlike public universities, which allow all applicants if they hold a French Baccalauréat or equivalent, Grandes Écoles follow a very stringent admission process. Students seeking to study at a French Grande École must hold a Baccalauréat or equivalent diploma and also be well ranked in the competitive entrance examinations, which take place at the end of a two-year preparation program called "Classes préparatoires aux grandes Écoles" (CPGE - Preparatory classes for Grandes Écoles).

Language requirements for studies at universities and colleges in France

French

Since the language of instruction at French universities and colleges is French, you are required to prove your level of proficiency. If you are enrolling in the first or second year of a study program at university in France, you must prove you have an adequate level of knowledge in French language. For this you can need to pass a language test or you can obtain a degree in French. In general, you are expected to have a level of command of the French language corresponding to B1/B2 in the European Language Passport.

In order to gain admission in France Universities, applicants need to prove their proficiency in commonly accepted English Language tests like IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

Students who scored 4.5 or more in IELTS will be eligible for a Bachelors programme. Students have to score for IELTS is requirement is IELTS 4.5 for pre-masters programmes and IELTS 6.0 for other academic programmes. Please note that some courses may have higher English language requirements.
